WILLOW WARRIORS

Welcome to Willow Warriors

Who are we & what do we do?

Willow Warriors' volunteers seek to combine the excitement of white-water rafting and having fun in the outdoors with conservation activities and landcare.

 Our activities

· Aim to improve the health of our river systems in areas of high conservation value across south eastern Australia by controlling invasive willow species and other woody weeds

· Include canoeing on grade one or grade two rivers, whitewater rafting on higher grade rivers and bushwalking. We specialise in difficult to access river reaches in national parks and wilderness areas although we also paddle on rivers flowing through privately owned property.

· Incude one day activities, car camping weekends, and remote area over-night and multi-day trips.

Black  Willow mapping exercise along the Hawkesbury River.

Paddling on the Hawkesbury, Cattai Creek, McDonald River, Webbs Creek or Lower Colo?

Willow warriors are looking for a group of  paddlers who could do a short training session then assist with identifying black willows (from other native species and other willows) along these rivers. WW would lend them a GPS and a waterproof  camera so they could record locations and take a photos of the black willows  they see. WW would then approach the landowner about treating the  willows and organise for the treatment or if the group wanted we could lend  them the tool and provide roundup to treat the willows. Where they are small  trees the group could probably treat them as they go. If the group wanted to  do paddles in one direction only WW may be able to help organise access to  the river with some of the contacts with have with landowners and  NPWS.
