This two day whitewater rescue course should be seen as the first of a four day course. Please refer to the Paddle Australia website/education/qualifications – whitewater. Read the Guide and the Rescue Evidence guides.
This first two day course will focus on the individual, honing whitewater skills, reviewing how to run a river safely and learning techniques of rescue – self and buddies. (Participants should come with the ability to run a grade 3 rapid). The second two day course will focus on river trips: personal responsibility for self and leading others through Grade 2 rapids. It will include the final assessment. Course will be scheduled in November – hopefully coinciding with a dam release from Burrinjuck Dam to Childowlah.
Both courses will be conducted on whitewater at a venue with appropriate water levels at the time. It could be on the Murrumbidgee Sections, camping at Cotter or Childowlah, or the Kangaroo River or the Barrington.
Registration costs are based on Instructor/participant safety ratios. To keep the cost down, we can extend these ratios only if we have experienced whitewater volunteers to assist. An important exercise for accredited guides/instructors who need to fulfil logbook requirements. Each two day course will cost $315 with a $45 discount to PaddleNSW members. The course may be postponed if we don’t reach viable cost recovery numbers. Volunteers should contact email@example.com to discuss further.
It is highly recommended that novice Snowy Extreme race participants complete the first two day course scheduled 14 & 15 September to gain safety river running skills.
